Exploring the World Through Pet Sitting: This is Our Journey!

Here is our adventure in housesitting, with lumps, bumps and all!  Our origin story is at the bottom, as the first blog post.  Enjoy the ride.

As we were fortunate enough to have my husband’s birthday during our trip, our friends made a reservation for the four of us at a place called Heaven’s Kitchen.

So I signed him up to be on their email list, to see if they did anything like what they do at home, which is typically a free dessert for the birthday boy. (Tip – if you are planning to travel, research the places you would like to go for some dinners during your travels, and sign up for their email lists to see if they send you something for free.)   They do – but better!  They sent us a message that his whole main course was covered, up to 30 pounds!  AWESOME! (30 pounds is close to $55 Canadian.)  Then our friends picked up the bill – which was above and beyond in our viewpoint.  What a lovely surprise treat!

Dinner was really enjoyable.  Very good food!  This is the only place I’ve seen where they have “sharing” meals, where you can get things like Chateaubriand, or a Tomahawk, which is a giant beef rib with all the meat attached to it at the end.  Our friends ordered the tomahawk, but opted for the meat to come already sliced off.  Not as much fun as fighting over the bone, but it still looked amazing!

Randy chose their filet mignon, and I ordered a half rack of baby pork ribs, so we could taste several different things. We were too busy diving into our food and didn't think about taking photos first. Mmmmmm!  We also had the chicken wing appetizer to share (with much heckling from the server about how we were going to divide up 3 wings between us), and a chocolate brownie to finish it off.  At the end of the meal our friends presented a gift bag to Randy with a birthday present in it, and included a package for me as well!  I got a beautiful clear glass teacup, and Randy got some Cadbury’s chocolate items!

Plus we had the story to go with it – they had already left their house when they realized they had forgotten to bring Randy’s gift, so they turned around.  At that same time, our friend couldn’t find his phone.  Apparently there were lots of bad words when Steve said ‘WHERE IS MY PHONE???”, and Nerms said, “I don’t know.  Is it on the roof?”  It was on the roof!  So it was recovered safely, only because they had to turn around for the present and hadn’t been on any fast roads yet.  It was the gift that saved hundreds of pounds for having to buy a new phone, and avoided all the hassles and agonies of cancelling each card that was registered to the phone’s wallet, including having to obtain a new driver's license!  Crisis averted, by another crisis!

We didn’t depart until after 10pm, rolling out of the very comfortable chairs, and we felt a bit like the staff had already headed home, as we were the last guests.  Good friends, good food, good atmosphere.  It was a great night out!
